General safety & current situation

The safety and wellbeing of our visitors is the highest priority for the Diani Beach tourism community. Diani boasts a strong, dedicated tourism economy, meaning security is managed proactively by local authorities, property owners, and businesses working in coordination.

The situation in Diani is stable, with all resorts, public beaches, restaurants, and tour operators running normally. While Diani is exceptionally welcoming, it remains a mainstream tourist destination, and we advise visitors to practice standard travel common sense regarding personal valuables.

Flights & airports

Both primary gateways to the South Coast—Ukunda Airstrip (directly in Diani) and Moi International Airport (in Mombasa)—are fully open and operational.

Visitors flying directly into Ukunda Airstrip will find themselves just minutes from major resorts. For those landing in Mombasa, the transfer to Diani takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours via the Likoni Ferry or the Dongo Kundu bypass. We strongly encourage visitors to arrange airport transfers in advance through their hotel, villa management, or a verified local transport operator to ensure a seamless arrival.

Health & wellbeing

As a tropical destination, Diani requires a few standard health preparations. Diani is located in a malaria zone, so anti-malarial medication is strongly recommended for all visitors, alongside the use of mosquito repellent (specifically those containing DEET or picaridin).

A Yellow Fever certificate is only mandatory if you are arriving from, or have had a transit layover of more than 12 hours in, a country with a risk of Yellow Fever transmission.

Tap water is not recommended for drinking. Bottled and filtered water is widely available and provided by almost all resorts and accommodations.
